De-Hui Wayne Ku, PhD
Technical Director of Special Coagulation Laboratory
Dr. Ku has been GenPath’s Technical Director of Coagulation since 2004. He completed his fellowships at Fels Cancer Institute, Temple University; the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD; and at Jefferson Cancer Institute, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Ku has published 32 original articles focused on topics such as thrombosis and coagulation activation markers. Dr. Ku obtained his PhD from Temple University, Pathology Department, Philadelphia. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
John V. Mitsios, PhD
Assistant Director for Special Coagulation Laboratory
Dr. Mitsios graduated from the University of Ioannina, Greece with a PhD in Chemistry. Upon
completion of his doctoral thesis, he then went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship
at the University of California, San Diego under the mentorship of Dr. Sanford J. Shattil. Dr.
Mitsios then transitioned to the world of Clinical Chemistry and completed a fellowship at
Washington University in St. Louis, MO. His primary research interest throughout his education
and training has been in coagulation, with an emphasis on platelet function and biology.
Upon completion of his fellowship, he joined the faculty at Cornell University as an Assistant
Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well as Assistant Attending Clinical
Chemist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Mitsios was then recruited to BioReference
Laboratories as an Assistant Director of the Special Coagulation Laboratory. In his current
position, Dr. Mitsios is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the lab and
signing out cases. Dr. Mitsios has co-authored 19 peer-reviewed articles and 3 book chapters.
Dr. Bevan Tandon, MD
Director of Cancer Cytogenomics
Dr. Tandon currently serves as Director of Cancer CytoGenomics. Dr. Tandon holds subspecialty board certifications in both Molecular Genetic Pathology, and also Hematopathology. His general certifications are in anatomic and clinical pathology. Dr. Tandon’s training in hematopathology consisted of an intensive fellowship and clinical instructorship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine under the guidance of Dr. Steven Swerdlow, and his training in molecular genetic pathology was conducted at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Dr. Tandon completed his general residency training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Tandon is an active member of the Society for Hematopathology, and the Association for Molecular Pathology.
Eric Antoniou, PhD
Assistant Director, Cancer Genomics
Dr. Antoniou earned his PhD from the University of Bordeaux, France. He was formerly the senior manager of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory genome sequencing center. He also held management positions at Ginkgo Bioworks and The Jackson Laboratory. Prior to these positions, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Antoniou has eighteen years of experience in genomics science, including nine years in next generation sequencing.
Guido D. Pollevick, PhD
Director of Molecular Genetics and Reproductive Genetics
Dr. Pollevick, GenPath’s Director of Molecular Genetics and Reproductive Genetics Departments, has more than 20 years of experience in the field of genetic testing. Formerly, he was the Director of Operations for Transgenomic Inc. and, prior to that, he held positions of Laboratory Director at several medical laboratories. Dr. Pollevick earned his Ph.D. from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is accredited in the United States by the International Education Research Foundation. He has held a certification of qualification as a laboratory director in genetic testing and oncology-molecular and cellular tumor markers from the New York State Department of Health since 2006. Dr. Pollevick has consistent success in biomedical scientific research, with more than 40 publications in the area of genetic conditions as peer-reviewed journal articles and has identified new genes associated with sudden cardiac death.
Karim Ouahchi, MD, FACMG
Director of Cancer Cytogenetics
Prior to joining BioReference, Dr. Ouahchi was co-director of the Laboratory of Cytogenetics PAML in Spokane, WA. Dr. Ouahchi earned his medical degree from the University of Tunis, Tunisia. He was trained in human genetics from the Institute of Genetic and Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Strasbourg in France. Dr. Ouahchi’s postdoctoral training was completed at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL and Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He is board certified in clinical cytogenetics and clinical pathology.
Ayala Aviram- Goldring, PhD
Director of Prenatal Cytogenetics
Prior to joining BioReference, Dr. Aviram-Goldring previously held several positions in Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology at North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System in Long Island, NY and the Institute of Human Genetics at the Sheba Medical Center. Dr. Aviram- Goldring was also the Senior Director of Prenatal and Postnatal Diagnosis which included Cytogenetics, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and FISH laboratories in the Department of Human Genetics at the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in Israel. She earned her PhD in Human Genetics from Sackler School of Medicine and was an Associate Professor at the Hofstra University School of Medicine in Long Island, NY. She has received New York State Department of Health certificates of qualification for cytogenetics, genetic testing, and oncology-cellular tumor markers.
Rajesh M. Butala, MD
Dr. Butala has more than 15 years of experience as a Pathologist, 10 of which are with GenPath. Dr. Butala completed his fellowship in surgical pathology and cytology at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY. He was Chief Resident in Pathology at Harlem Hospital Center, NY, and Resident in Pathology at Brooklyn-Caledonian Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Butala is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Fan Chen, MD, PhD
Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Chen was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology at the New York University Medical Center. She completed her Gynecological Pathology fellowship at Bellevue Hospital, New York University Medical Center, where she was Fellow of the Year in 2008. Dr. Chen earned her PhD in Molecular Biology at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Dr. Chen is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Yu Chen, MD
Previously, Dr. Chen served as Surgical Pathologist at South Nassau Communities Hospital in New York NY. She earned her MD from the China Medical University and has published numerous papers in journals including Pediatric Pathology and Molecular Medicine, American Society of Cytopathology, Journal of Urology, and the Journal of Neurochemistry. Dr. Chen is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Carol Eliasen, MD
Dr. Eliasen earned her MD from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. After residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at NYU Medical Center, she completed fellowships in Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center and Gynecologic Pathology at Mount Sinai. Dr. Eliasen brings to GenPath over 20 years of pathology experience and formerly served as a pathologist for Dianon Systems and LabCorp. She has also had an academic appointment at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology
Renuka Kulkarni, MD
Dr. Kulkarni completed a surgical pathology fellowship at the Department of Pathology at the Medical Center of Georgia (MCG). Prior to MCG, she served in several capacities at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey and as a Assistant at Columbia University and NYU Medical Center in New York. She earned an MD in India. Dr. Kulkarni is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Marina Murkis, MD
Dr. Murkis has more than 25 years of pathology experience. Previously, Dr. Murkis was an Attending Pathologist at New York Hospital Queens, Flushing, NY. She completed her surgical pathology fellowship training and her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, at New York Hospital Queens, where she was Chief Resident for two years. Dr. Murkis obtained her MD in Moscow, Russia. She is board certified in anatomic pathology.
Emil L. Petrov, MD
Dr. Petrov has more than 27 years of experience in clinical pathology. His previous positions include pathology appointments at Staten Island University Hospital, State University of New York, and St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He completed his internship at Beth Israel Medical Centersear in New York. He is trained in internal medicine and is board certified in anatomic pathology.
Hach V. Turyan, MD
Dr. Turyan previously worked at InterScience Laboratories in New York where he served as Assistant Medical Director. Prior to InterScience, Dr. Turyan held several positions as a pathologist in New York. He earned his MD from Azerbaijan State Medical University in Azerbaijan and was a Clinical Instructor at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Turyan is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Buhalqem (Helchem) Kadire, MD
Prior to joining GenPath in 2016, Dr. Kadire served as an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai
Hospital as well as a staff pathologist at Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) in
New York. Dr. Kadire earned her medical degree from Beijing Medical University, China,
and completed her residency in pathology at New Jersey Medical School, Newark. She also
continued his fellowship in GYN pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. Dr. Kadire is
board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology.
Luoquan Wang, MD
Medical Director of Cytopathology
Dr. Wang completed his cytology fellowship and served as Assistant Professor and Attending Pathologist at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein Medical College, Bronx, NY. He received his pathology training from The State University New York at Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Wang received his MD and MS degrees from China. He is board certified in cytopathology, anatomic pathology and clinical pathology.
Julian Arce, MD
Dr. Arce graduated magna cum laude from University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He received his cytopathology training during his fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM)/ Montefiore Medical Center (MMC) in Bronx, NY. Dr. Arce authored recent publications on his research and was previously a cytopathologist at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology.
Chanchal Malhotra, MD
Dr. Malhotra is a Senior Pathologist with extensive experience in GI and GYN pathology and exceptional expertise in cytopathology and immunopathology. Dr. Malhotra earned her medical degree at MBBS, GSVM Medical College in Kanpur, India. She completed her fellowship in pediatric pathology at the Mount Sinai Hospital New York in New York, NY and her residency in clinical pathology at University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ in Teaneck, NJ. Prior to joining BioReference in 2011, she was Senior Pathologist at Quest Diagnostics in Teterboro, NJ. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with specialties in cytopathology and immunopathology.
Hilda Ladenheim, MD
Dr. Ladenheim joined BioReference Laboratories in 2013 as a Cytopathologist. She earned her medical degree from Buenos Aires University in Buenos Aires, Argentina and completed fellowships in surgical pathology and transfusion medicine at the University of Wisconsin Health System in Madison, WI. Dr. Ladenheim also completed a fellowship in cytopathology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Dr. Ladenheim is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Hua Chen, MD, PhD
Dr. Chen joined BioReference in 2011 as a Cytopathologist and was previously an Assistant Professor of Cytopathology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY. He was also the Chief Resident at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Chen earned his medical degree at Second Military Medical University in Shanghai, China and completed his post-graduate work at New York University School of Medicine in New York, NY. He is board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and cytopathology.
Wenjing Wang, MD
Dr. Wang was an Attending Pathologist at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center in New York. She also worked as a Research Specialist in the Pulmonary and Critical Care Division at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her MD in Internal Medicine at the Shanxi Medical College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She has published numerous papers and is the recipient of distinguished teaching awards. Dr. Wang is board certified in cytopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Fang Qian, MD
Dr. Qian was most recently the Chief of Cytology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in NJ. At Beth Israel, Dr. Qian collaborated on clinical research related to surgical pathology and gave presentations for tumor boards. She was trained as a fellow in GYN pathology at Columbia University and earned an MD from Beijing Medical University. Dr. Qian is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Danielle D. Pritchett, MD, FASCP
Dr. Pritchett completed her fellowship in cytopathology at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY. She completed her resident training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. She was later appointed Chief Resident in anatomic pathology at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Pritchett received her MD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is board certified in cytopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Abdel Elhosseiny, MD
Dr. Elhosseiny is a senior pathologist with over 35 years of experience. Before joining
GenPath in 2015, he served as an attending pathologist at the University of Vermont College
of Medicine, VT. Dr. Elhosseiny held several leadership positions and served as a professor of
pathology and the Director Pathology Student Advisement at The University of Vermont, VT.
He also has numerous publications in journals, book chapters, and abstracts. Dr. Elhosseiny
is board certified in clinical and anatomic pathology and cytopathology.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Weisu Zhang, MD
Dr. Zhang is a research scientist at GenPath whose work on Jak2 Exon 12 analysis was recently presented at ASH (2010). Dr. Zhang was a Principle Research Associate at Genzyme Genetics where he designed a new assay for detecting KRAS in mutant cancer cells. He did his postdoctoral scientific work at Columbia University in their Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics. Dr. Zhang earned his MD in China at the Nantong Medical College.
Yi Sun, PhD
Dr. Sun is a Research Scientist at GenPath. She has a cumulative of over 5 years with BioReference Labs, and developed a number of assays on cancer diagnostics, genetic testing as well as women’s health testing. Dr. Sun has also served as the Director of Molecular Diagnostics at Histopathology Services, LLC., implementing a clinical Next Generation Sequencing program. Dr. Sun received her PhD in Genetics and MIS in Information Studies. She has authored numerous publications in scientific journals.
Wojciech Gorczyca, MD, PhD
Chief of Hematopathology Services
Dr. Gorczyca has been a hematopathologist with GenPath since 2013. Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Gorczyca was the Director of Flow Cytometry at CSI Laboratories and the Director of Hematopathology at Genzyme. Dr. Gorczyca completed his Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and Residency in Anatomic Pathology at New York Medical Center after receiving his MD from the Medical Academy, Szczecin, Poland, and Research Fellowship at The Norwegian Radium Hospital in Oslo, Norway. Dr. Gorczyca has authored more than 75 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has authored several books. He is board certified in anatomic pathology.
Liliana Alexa, MD
Dr. Alexa was an Attending Pathologist at Staten Island University Hospital, NY. Previously she was a Primary Care and Internal Medicine Physician in Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Alexa completed her fellowship in surgical pathology at Pennsylvania Hospital (University of Pennsylvania), Philadelphia. She received her MD from the Faculty of General Medicine, Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Alexa is board certified in hematopathology as well as anatomic and clinical pathology.
Yan Gao Fan, MD
Dr. Fan joined GenPath from LabCorp where she was a Hematopathologist. She completed a fellowship at the Department of Physiology at Columbia University and continued her training as a hematopathology fellow at NYU Medical Center. Dr. Fan earned her MD in China at the Capital University of Medical Sciences. Dr. Fan is author of numerous publications in scientific journals including The American Journal of Pathology and Oncogene. She is board certified in hematopathology and clinical and anatomic pathology.
Liliya Feldman, MD
Dr. Feldman completed her hematopathology fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, and her surgical pathology and cytopathology fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Newark, NJ. She completed her resident training in anatomic and clinical pathology at UMDNJ. She earned her medical degree at Kharkov Medical Institute, Ukraine. Dr. Feldman is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Po-Shing Lee, MD
Dr. Lee has been a Hematopathologist with GenPath since 2007 and prior to that worked at Genzyme Genetics from 2002 to 2007. Initially, Dr. Lee started a flow cytometry laboratory in Taiwan at the Chimei Foundation Medical Center. He completed his fellowship in hematopathology at the New York University Medical Center, NYC. Dr. Lee received his MS and MD from National Taiwan University, College of Medicine, Taipei. Dr. Lee is board certified in hematopathology as well as anatomic and clinical pathology.
Yinghua Pang, MD
Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Pang was an attending pathologist at Woodhulll Medical Center in New York. She completed her clinical fellowship in hematopathology from Columbia University and her clinical fellowship in Women’s Health Pathology from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Pang is board certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology as well as hematopathology and hematology.
Rajendra Persad, MBBS
Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Persad was the Director of Pathology at the San Fernando General Hospital in Trinidad and Tobago. He completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the NY University School of Medicine and has published several articles and abstracts. Dr. Persad earned his MD at the University of the West Indies. Dr. Persad is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Deborah W. Sevilla, MD
Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Sevilla was an attending physician at Columbia University Medical Center. She also completed a fellowship in hematopathology at Columbia University, where she continues to teach medical school curriculum. Dr. Sevilla trained at Duke University Medical Center and has published articles in prestigious journals such as Leukemia Lymphoma and Leukemia Research. Dr. Sevilla is board certified in anatomic pathology and hematopathology.
Jotica Talwar, MD
Dr. Talwar was the Medical Director at both Staten Island University Hospital South and the Medical Center Laboratory in Brooklyn, NY. She completed a fellowship in hematopathology at Temple University and her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Brown University School of Medicine. Dr. Talwar is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Joseph Weisensel, DO
Dr. Weisensel completed his hematopathology fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center in NY. Dr. Weisensel was also Chief Resident at Rochester Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from the NY College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Weisensel is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Dongjiu Ye, MD, PhD
Dr. Ye joined GenPath from the Pathology Associates of Tyler, Texas, where he was a Pathologist. Dr. Ye completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He earned his MD in China and a PhD from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Yong Ming Li, PhD
Dr. Li completed his fellowship in dermatopathology at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in NY. He received his medical training in China and further scientific education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign earning a PhD in molecular immunology. Dr. Li has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Medicine. Dr. Li is board certified in dermatopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Yiqiu Zhang, MD
Previously, Dr. Zhang was a Senior Dermatopathologist at Quest Diagnostics. She completed her fellowship in dermatopathology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Medical College. Dr. Zhang also completed a fellowship in oncology pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NY. Dr. Zhang is board certified in dermatopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.
Andrew Seymour, MD
Dr. Seymour is a board certified Anatomic and Cytopathologist with subspecialty board
certification in both dermatopathology and cytopathology. He finished his fellowship training
in dermatopathology at Miraca Life Sciences/Tufts Medical Center and cytopathology
fellowship training at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Dr.
Seymour has published articles in peer reviewed journals in Cytology, Dermatopathology
Liang Liu, MD, PhD
Dr. Liu completed his fellowship in GI Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in Pathology at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Liu worked at CBLPath for more than 10 years as a GI pathologist before joining GenPath as a surgical pathologist with a subspecialty in GI pathology. He is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. He is also a member of AGA, CAP, ASCP and USCAP.
Richard Roberts, MD, PhD
Dr. Richard Roberts is a Senior Pathologist specializing in Urologic Pathology. Previously, Dr.
Roberts was a Senior Pathologist and Director of Cytology at OPKO Lab from 2008 to 2010
and Urologic Pathologist at OPKO Lab from 2005 to 2008. He received his M.D. and Ph.D.
degrees from The University of Iowa College of Medicine. His Anatomic Pathology residency
and Neuropathology fellowship were completed at Washington University in St. Louis.
Later, he also completed a Molecular Pathology fellowship in prostate cancer at Vanderbilt
University from 2000-2001 and a Urologic Pathology fellowship at Oppenheimer Reference
Laboratory in 2004.
Jeffrey Brown, MD
Prior to joining GenPath in 2017, Dr. Brown was the Laboratory Director and Uropathologist
at Delaware Valley Urology/Pathline Laboratories in Voorhees, NJ. Dr. Brown completed his
fellowship in Genitourinary Pathology at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, and his
fellowship in Oncologic Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York, NY. Dr.
Brown is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Fang Wen, MD, PhD
Dr. Wen completed her fellowship in Genitourinary/General Surgical Pathology at University
of California-Los Angeles and holds a PhD in Molecular Pathology from the University of
California-San Diego. She has authored a number of publications and case reports on
pathology. Dr. Wen is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.
