James Weisberger, MD, FACP, FASCP

Chief Medical Officer, Executive Vice President, Laboratory Director

Dr. Weisberger is a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist and recognized leader in hematopathology. He oversees all key laboratory operations and quality systems, and maintains BioReference Health®, LLC as an innovative, quality laboratory where patient care and laboratory safety come first. Dr. Weisberger strives to position BioReference® as a leader in providing patient-centric, precision-based laboratory results and data analytics for best practice of patient care.

Dr. James Weisberger has authored more than 40 publications as abstracts or peer-reviewed journal articles, and is an active educator at the New York Medical College, where he serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine. He is a Fellow and Member of the New Jersey House of Delegates for the College of American Pathology, and a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathology. He is also a member of the New Jersey Society of Pathology and Association for Molecular Pathology. Dr. Weisberger was Chief Resident in Pathology at Westchester Medical Center and holds both a BS and MS from Stanford University, and an MD from the University of Pennsylvania.

Wojciech A. Swat, PHD, DABMGG, FACMG

Director of Cancer Genomics

Dr. Swat is a board certified clinical molecular geneticist holding certifications of American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) and European Board of Medical Genetics (EMBG). He joined GenPath in 2020 after a two decade-long tenure as Associate Professor of Pathology and Immunology, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Prior to joining GenPath, he served as an Associate Medical Director of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (MDL) of Barnes-Jewish Hospital where he was responsible for clinical case load, consultation to clinicians, CAP proficiency and validation testing, and training and education of medical students, pathology residents in AP/CP programs, and molecular and cytogenetics fellows during lab rotations.  His graduate training was conducted at the Basel Institute for Immunology with Harald von Boehmer, and his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School with Frederick W Alt. During his academic career, he has been distinguished as a Scholar of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and received several awards including Howard Hughes Medical Institute, American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, and Irene Duggan/Irvington Institute scholarships. He contributed more than 100 research publications becoming one of the most highly-cited leaders in the field of immunology and cancer biology with over 11,000 literature citations (Google Scholar h-index 52, i10-index 75).

Eric Antoniou, PhD

Assistant Director, Cancer Genomics

Dr. Antoniou earned his PhD from the University of Bordeaux, France. He was formerly the senior manager of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory genome sequencing center. He also held management positions at Ginkgo Bioworks and The Jackson Laboratory. Prior to these positions, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Antoniou has eighteen years of experience in genomics science, including nine years in next-generation sequencing.

Zhixiong Xu, PhD, FACMG

Director, Cancer Cytogenetics

Zhixiong Xu is ABMGG-certified in clinical molecular genetics and clinical cytogenetics. He joined GeneDx in 2013 and served as Assistant Director of the Hereditary Cancer program. He received his BS in Biological Chemistry from Xiamen University and his PhD in Cell Biology from the Peking Union Medical College. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular oncology and was appointed Research Assistant Professor at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. While at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), he worked with Gary Felsenfeld in genetic and epigenetic regulation of gene expression and completed his medical genetics fellowship training at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). Dr. Xu was a recipient of the Hope Street Kids Fellowship Award and the American Society of Hematology Scholar Award.

Wojciech Gorczyca M.D

Director of Hematopathology

Dr. Gorczyca is a board certified pathologist, noted in his expertise in hematopathology and flow cytometry. He is a well-respected lecturer and author – he has published more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and texts books including Differential Diagnosis in Neoplastic Hematopathology, Flow Cytometry in Neoplastic Hematology, and Cytogenetics, FISH, and Molecular Testing in Hematologic Malignancies.

Rajendra Persad, M.B., B.S.

Hematopathologist

Dr. Persad is a board certified pathologist specializing in hematopathology. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, followed by a surgical pathology fellowship at University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas and his hematopathology fellowship at the New York University School of Medicine in New York, New York. He received his medical degree from the University of the West Indies Faculty of Medical Sciences in Saint Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. He is a member of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), and the American Society of Hematology (ASH).

Debbie Buzaid, M.D.

Hematopathologist

Dr. Buzaid is a board certified pathologist specializing in hematopathology. She was Chief Resident in Pathology at Duke University in Durham, NC and completed her hematopathology fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, New York where she subsequently practiced and served as an assistant professor of pathology and cell biology before coming to GenPath. She received her M.D. from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfok, Virginia. Dr. Buzaid has been a hematopathologist at GenPath for over ten years.

Po Shing Lee, M.D.

Hematopathologist

Dr. Lee is a board certified pathologist specializing in hematopathology. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residencies at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark and at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr.  Lee did his hematopathology fellowship at New York University Medical Center in Manhattan, New York. He holds an M.D. from National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan. Dr. Lee has over 15 years of pathology experience, has authored 17 publications, and is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) and the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Joseph Weisensel, D.O.

Hematopathologist

Dr. Weisensel is a board certified pathologist specializing in hematopathology. He was Chief Resident in Pathology and completed his hematopathology fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York. He holds a D.O. from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. Dr. Weisensel has been a hematopathologist at GenPath for nearly ten years and is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Yinghua Pang, M.D.

She was Chief Resident in Pathology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey and completed her hematopathology fellowship she subsequently practiced and served as an assistant professor of pathology at New York University Medical Center. Justin Fender, M.D.

Surgical Pathologist, GI Pathologist and Cytopathologist

Dr. Fender is a board certified pathologist who signs out general surgical pathology and cytopathology and has expertise in gastrointestinal and liver pathology, as well as cytopathology. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY, followed by a gastrointestinal and liver pathology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a cytopathology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Turyan is a board certified pathologist specializing in durgical pathology and hematopathology. Andrey Gritsman, M.D., Ph.D.

Surgical pathologist and Cytopathologist

Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology. Following his Cancer Research fellowship at NCI, NIH he completed his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at the George Washington University Medical Center, followed by Oncologic Pathology fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. His areas of subspecialty are Breast, GYN and FNA Cytopathology. He received his M.D. degree and Ph.D. in Immunopathology from the 1st Moscow Medical Institute. Renuka Kulkarni, M.D.

Surgical Pathologist

Dr. Kulkarni completed her anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, New Jersey followed by a surgical pathology fellowship at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. She received her medical degree from JJMM Medical College, India.  Dr. Kulkarni has expertise in the area of surgical pathology, immunohistochemistry, breast prognostic markers and applications of whole slide imaging and image analysis. Dr. Lihong Xia is a board-certified pathologist specialized in cytopathology.
