GenPath is an industry leader in diagnostics supporting Personalized Medicine. Most laboratories do not offer the breadth and depth of genetic testing that we provide in-house. This allows for quick turnaround times for frequently ordered tests:
- PCR assays such as EGFR, KRAS, BRAF: 24 – 48 hours
- FISH probe analysis such as EML4-ALK: 3 – 5 days
- IHC stains: 24 hours
Our in-house testing capabilities are unmatched in areas, such as, genetic profiling of solid tumor cancers (lung, breast, colon, melanoma).
Non-small cell lung cancer is at the forefront of personalized medicine. In the past, the key clinical determinant was histology. Now, genetics plays a key role in deciding treatment options. GenPath provides all testing needs including those not commonly available outside of academic settings.

IHC Tissue Typing – NSCLC Histology Classification
Through our 5 antibody profile we determine the patient’s lung histology — either adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. This allows the oncologist to follow the recommended guidelines based on histological subtype.

Genetic Mutations (Single Genes or Panels) – EGFR, KRAS, EML4-ALK, ERCC1
- GenPath validated molecular tests in lung cancer look for actionable mutations that oncologists rely on to make the most informed therapeutic decision. We guide the clinician in selecting the appropriate testing based on histological determination. Unlike other labs we recommend against testing in clinically inappropriate situations.

We provide clinicians multiple options for ordering; single gene testing, reflex testing and panels. For example, in NSCLC adenocarcinoma mutations such as EGFR, KRAS, and EML4-ALK are mutually exclusive to one another. Therefore, as long as treatment decisions can be made in 5-6 days instead of 3 days we can potentially save precious tissue and cost by reflexing the tests based on results.

Our mutational assays are designed to reflect the gold standards in diagnostics. The decision to design an assay as PCR, RT-PCR, or FISH is determined by the best available method and current NCCN guidelines.
PCR: EGFR, KRAS,
RT-PCR: ERCC1
FISH: EML4-ALK

OnkoMatch Tumor Genotyping – 14 Cancer Genes from 1 Specimen
GenPath is the only commercial lab to offer OnkoMatch, a rapid tumor genotyping assay that looks for more than 68 hotspot mutations across 14 different oncogenes. Through our national presence, community oncologists across the US can now order tumor genotyping of solid tumors that is currently being routinely performed at premier academic institutions such as Mass General Hospital and Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center.
14 Oncogenes: AKT1, APC, BRAF, CTNNB1, EGFR, IDH1,
KIT, KRAS, MAP2K1, NOTCH1, NRAS,
PIK3CA, PTEN, TP53Patients with advanced disease may have become refractory to currently approved medications and are searching for investigational therapies. OnkoMatch molecular profiling allows oncologists to consider alternative treatment options such as clinical trial therapies based on mutational status.
