James Weisberger, MD

Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Weisberger has served as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Medicine at New York Medical College, NYC, and Attending Physician at Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, NY. He was Chief Resident in Pathology at Westchester Medical Center and completed a fellowship in hematopathology at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, NYC, under Dr. Daniel Knowles. He earned both a BS and an MS from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Dr. Weisberger continues to teach at New York Medical College as  Assistant Professor of Pathology and Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematopathology, and anatomic and clinical pathology.

Liliana Alexa, MD

Dr. Alexa comes to GenPath after serving as an Attending Pathologist at Staten Island University Hospital, NY. Prior to that, she was a Primary Care and Internal Medicine Physician in Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Alexa received her MD from the Faculty of General Medicine; Bucharest, Romania. She completed her postgraduate training in anatomical and clinical pathology at Pennsylvania Hospital (University of Pennsylvania), in Philadelphia, and at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT. Dr. Alexa completed her fellowship in surgical pathology at Pennsylvania Hospital (University of Pennsylvania). Philadelphia. She is board certified in hematopathology as well as anatomic and clinical pathology.

Yale S. Arkel, MD, FACP

Medical Director, Hemostasis and Thrombosis

Dr. Arkel, board certified in internal medicine and hematology, comes to GenPath after being the Director of Hematology Departments and Hemostasis Centers in New Jersey since 1972. He has held academic and faculty positions at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Columbia University College of Medicine, New York University Medical Center, and Yale University School of Medicine. He is currently a Visiting Professor at Albert Einstein Medical School in NYC. He founded the first major state-funded hemophilia center in New Jersey.

He is the Founding President of the North American Specialized Coagulation Laboratories Association. Dr. Arkel did his hematology fellowship with Dr. T. Spaet at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. He has authored more than 50 original papers, 200 scientific presentations, and is the co-inventor of a test for Factor V Leiden. His main interest in research and laboratory hemostasis activities has been centered in thrombophilia, particularly in relation to adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Rajesh M. Butala, MD

Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Butala worked as a Staff Pathologist at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic, NJ, and at St. John's Hospital, Queens, NY. Dr. Butala completed his fellowship in surgical pathology and cytology at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY. He was Chief Resident in Pathology at Harlem Hospital Center, NY, and Resident in Pathology at Brooklyn-Caledonian Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Butala is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Will M. Fehrle, MD

Dr. Fehrle fulfilled his postdoctoral fellowship in immunopathology and hematopathology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He also completed his hematopathology fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Fehrle completed his resident training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. He earned his BS from Gannon University in Erie, PA, and his MD from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA.

Liliya Feldman, MD

Dr. Feldman completed her hematopathology fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, and her surgical pathology and cytopathology fellowship at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Newark. She completed her resident training in anatomic and clinical pathology at UMDNJ. She earned her medical degree at Kharkov Medical Institute, Ukraine. Dr. Feldman is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.

Pushpa Gupta, MD

Dr. Gupta completed her fellowship in neuropathology and served her residency in pathology at the Metropolitan Flower & Fifth Avenue Hospitals, New York Medical College, NY. She completed an internship in pathology at the Brooklyn Cumberland Medical Center, NY. Dr. Gupta earned her MD in India. She also teaches at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, as Assistant Clinical Professor. Dr. Gupta is board certified in hematopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.

Jonathan W. Juco, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Juco comes to BioReference Laboratories after serving as a Staff Pathologist and Director of Immunohistology at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Juco received his MD and completed his residency training in general pathology (AP/CP) at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He completed his fellowship in hematopathology at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA. Dr. Juco is board certified in hematopathology as well as anatomic and clinical pathology.

De-Hui Wayne Ku, PhD

Dr. Ku is the Technical Director of our Special Coagulation Laboratory. He completed his fellowships at Fels Cancer Institute, Temple University; the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, and at Jefferson Cancer Institute, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Ku has published 32 original articles. Dr. Ku obtained his PhD from Temple University, Pathology Department, Philadelphia. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

Po-Shing Lee, MD

Dr. Lee comes to GenPath after serving as a Staff Pathologist at Chimei Foundation Medical Center, Tainan, Taiwan, where he started their flow cytometry laboratory. His background includes working as a hematopathologist at a major US reference laboratory. Dr. Lee received his MS and MD from National Taiwan University, College of Medicine, Taipei. He completed his residency training in anatomical pathology at National Taiwan University Hospital, Taipei, and in pathology at University of Medicine Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School, Newark. He completed his fellowship in hematopathology at the New York University Medical Center, NYC. Dr. Lee is board certified in hematopathology as well as anatomic and clinical pathology.

Marina Murkis, MD

Dr. Murkis brings over 25 years of pathology experience and expertise to GenPath. Prior to joining GenPath, she was Attending Pathologist at New York Hospital Queens, Flushing. She completed her surgical pathology fellowship training and her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, at New York Hospital Queens, where she was Chief Resident for 2 years. Dr. Murkis obtained her MD in Moscow, Russia. She is board certified in anatomic pathology.

Emil L. Petrov, MD

Dr. Petrov brings more than 25 years of experience to GenPath. His previous positions include pathology appointments at Staten Island University Hospital, State University of New York, and St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He completed his internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He is trained in internal medicine and is accredited in anatomic and neuropathology.

Danielle D. Pritchett, MD, FASCP

Dr. Pritchett completed her fellowship in cytopathology at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, NY. She completed her resident training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. She was later appointed Chief Resident in anatomic pathology at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Pritchett received her MD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is board certified in cytopathology and anatomic and clinical pathology.

LuoQuan Wang, MD, MSc

Medical Director, Cytopathology

Dr. Wang received his pathology training from State University New York at Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Wang completed his cytology fellowship and served as Assistant Professor and Attending Pathologist at Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein Medical College, Bronx, NY. He received his MD and MS degrees from China. Dr. Wang is board certified in cytopathology, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology.

Shiphali Gupta, PhD, FACMG

Medical Director, Cytogenetics

Dr. Gupta has earned her PhD from Punjab University, Chandigarh, India. She completed a fellowship in clinical cytogenetics at the Center for Human and Molecular Genetics, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark. She has held faculty positions at Rockefeller University, NY. Prior to joining GenPath, Dr. Gupta was the Director of the Cell Genetics Laboratory at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, NY. She is certified by ABMG in clinical cytogenetics.

Ramana Tantravahi, PhD

Assistant Director, Cytogenetics

Dr. Tantravahi started his academic career at Harvard University, Boston, MA, and has over 40 years of experience in his field. He has held research and teaching positions at Harvard University, Columbia University, University of Massachusetts, and Andhra University, India. He has held clinical positions at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Tantravahi is a peer reviewer for the following journals: Cytogenetics, American Journal of Hematology, Blood, Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics, Cell Genetics, Genes, Chromosomes and Cancer, and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has published over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Laszlo Csury, MD

Dr. Csury completed his cytopathology fellowship at the H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center, University of South Florida, Tampa. He was also a Pediatric Pathology Fellow at State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center, Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Csury completed his residency training at SUNY Health Science Center as Chief Resident in clinical pathology. He was also a Research Fellow in Pediatric Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, NY. He received his MD from Semmelweis School of Medicine in Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Csury is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology.

Phillip Lynch, MD

Dr. Lynch completed his residency in pathology and neuropathology at Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. He was also Chief Resident of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC. Dr. Lynch is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

John L. Morawski, MD

Director of Pathology, Northern Dutchess Hospital

Dr. Morawski completed his surgical pathology fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, and his immunopathology fellowship at Bronx Lebanon Medical Center, NY. He completed his residency at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Medical Center in NY. He earned his medical degree from American University in Montserrat, WI. Dr. Morawski is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and is board-eligible in cytopathology and forensic pathology.

Sutini Ngadiman, MD, CPE, FCAP

Director of Pathology, Vassar Brothers Medical Center

In addition to her directorial position at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie, NY, Dr. Ngadiman concurrently serves as the Director of the Pathology Department at Fishkill Ambulatory Surgical Center, NY, and Assistant Director of the Pathology Department at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck, NY. She was a Cytopathology Fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NY, and completed her fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. She completed her resident training in anatomic pathology at Cornell University Medical Center, NY. She did her internship in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Dr. Ngadiman earned her medical degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. She is board certified in anatomic pathology and cytopathology.

S. Robert Paik, MD

Dr. Paik completed his resident training in anatomic and clinical pathology at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Ohio. He was also a Resident in Pathology and Surgery at Harlem Hospital, New York, NY. Dr. Paik earned his medical degree from Chonnam University Medical School in Kwangju, Korea. Dr. Paik is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, dermatopathology, and cytopathology.

Shelly L. Kerman, MD

Dr. Kerman was Director of Cytology and Associate Pathologist at Diagnostic Pathology Services, Inc. in Clarksburg, MD, prior to joining GenPath. She completed her resident training in pathology at The Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. She is also trained in medical cytogenetics from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, and the Prenatal Diagnosis Center of New York City, NY. Dr. Kerman earned her medical degree from the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University of Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Sundeen was the Laboratory Director and President of Diagnostic Pathology Services in Clarksburg, MD, prior to joining GenPath. He was the Laboratory Medical Director and Chief of Anatomic Pathology at Prince Georges Hospital Center in Cheverly, MD. He completed his fellowship in hematopathology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He was Chief Resident at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC, where he completed his resident training in pathology. Dr. Sundeen received his MD from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. He worked as a Clinical Associate Physician, Division of Laboratory Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC, and is currently a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, George Washington University Medical Center. Dr. Sundeen is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

Sherri J. Bale, PhD, FACMG

Clinical Director

Prior to co-founding GeneDx with Dr. Compton, Dr. Bale was Section Chief in the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculosketal and Skin Diseases in the Genetic Studies Section/Laboratory of Skin Biology, and prior to that she was a Senior Staff Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology. She received her PhD in human genetics from the University of Pittsburgh, PA. She completed Fellowship training in medical genetics at the National Institutes of Health, Interinstitute Medical Genetics Training Program. Dr. Bale is Board-Certified by the American College of Medical Genetics.

John G. Compton, PhD

Scientific Director

Dr. Compton is the co-founder and Scientific Director of GeneDx. Prior to that, he was a Staff Scientist at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, and Associate Staff Scientist at The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME. Dr. Compton graduated from MIT, Cambridge, MA, and received his PhD in biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cell Biology Department at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX.

Swaroop Aradhya, PhD., FACMG

Vice President and Director, Clinical Microarray Services

Dr. Aradhya has been in the field of medical genetics since 1994 when he worked at the National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health. He earned his PhD in molecular and human genetics in 2001 at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Aradhya completed his American Board of Medical Genetics training in 2007 at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. He is board certified in clinical molecular genetics and clinical cytogenetics. His interests are chromosomal architecture and genomic disorders.

Kathleen Hruska, PhD, FACMG

Senior Review Analyst

Dr. Hruska joined GeneDx after her postdoctoral fellowship in the Section on Molecular Neurogenetics, National Human Genome Research Institute, Bethesda, MD. She received a BS in biological chemistry from Murray State University, KY, where she graduated summa cum laude, and her PhD from University of Maryland, Baltimore. Dr. Hruska is board certified in clinical molecular genetics.

David S. Konecki, PhD

Review Analyst

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Konecki was a Senior Research Fellow at the National Human Genome Research Institute, Medical Genetics Branch, Bethesda, MD, and a Research Scientist at the Center for Medical Genetics, Marshfield Medical Research Foundation, WI. Dr. Konecki received a BS in chemistry from the University of Texas, Austin, and a PhD in human sciences from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität, Heidelberg, Germany. He then held a postdoctoral position at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany.

Anne Maddalena, PhD, FACMG

Associate Scientific Director

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Maddalena was the Director of the Molecular Genetic Laboratory at the Genetics & IVF Institute, Fairfax, VA. She is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Human Genetics, Richmond, VA. Dr. Maddalena received a BS in biology from the University of Detroit, MI, and a PhD in Microbiology/Immunology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her postdoctoral training was at the Institute for Cancer Research, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia (Fellow), the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, (Fellow), and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, University of Pennsylvania (Research Associate). Dr. Maddalena is board certified in clinical molecular genetics and specializes in hematological and immune system disorders.

Patricia E. McAndrew, PhD, FACMG

Associate Director, Laboratory Operations

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. McAndrew was a Research Scientist at Transgenomic, Inc, Gaithersburg, MD. Dr. McAndrew received her BS in biology from Bates College, Lewiston, ME, and her PhD from Ohio State University, Columbus. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Ohio State University, Columbus, Department of Pathology, and at the Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC (Research Center for Genetic Medicine). Dr. McAndrew is board certified in medical genetics with a subspecialty in clinical molecular genetics.

Gulam Mustafa Saifi, PhD

Assistant Director, Test Development

Dr. Saifi received a BS in zoology from the University of Bombay, India, an MS in biotechnology from the University of Poona, India, and a PhD in genetics research from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. He completed a fellowship in genetics research at the Centre for Human Genetics, Bangalore, India and did his postdoctoral work in genetics research at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. He is also Adjunct Faculty at the Centre for Human Genetics.

Isabelle Marie Olivos-Glander, PhD

Director, Clinical Laboratory Operations

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Olivos-Glander was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Human Genome Research Institute, Genetic Disease Research Branch, Bethesda, MD, and at the University of Maryland Medical Systems, Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, Baltimore, before that. Dr. Olivos-Glander received a BA in biology from Bryn Mawr College, PA, and her PhD in molecular biology from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Ellen G. Pfendner, PhD

Director, EBDx Program

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Pfendner was at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, where she served as Assistant Professor and Manager of Molecular Diagnostics and Instructor and Manager of Matrix Molecular Diagnostics. She was also a Research Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, the Director of Clinical Molecular Genetics Laboratory at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, and Biology Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Dr. Pfendner received a BS in biology and chemistry from Simmons College, Boston, MA, and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.

Gabriele Richard, MD, FACMG

Medical Director

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Richard was Associate Professor for Dermatology and Genetics at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, PA, and Co-director of the DEBRA Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. Before that, she worked as a Research/Clinical Fellow in Molecular and PhD Medical Genetics at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, and as dermatologist at the Erfurt Medical Academy, Germany. Dr. Richard received her MD from Erfurt Medical Academy, and is board certified in the United States in Medical Genetics.

Nizar Smaoui, MD, FACMG

Associate Medical Director, Director, Division Inherited Eye Disease

Dr. Smaoui comes to GeneDx from the National Eye Institute, DNA Diagnostic Laboratory, Bethesda, MD, where he was Laboratory Director. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Eye Institute/National Institutes of Health. In addition, he received his Master Diploma in human genetics from University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI, France, and is board certified in clinical molecular genetics.

Sharon Frances Suchy, PhD, FACMG

Director, Division of Inherited Metabolic Disorders

Prior to joining GeneDx, Dr. Suchy was an Associate Investigator at the National Institutes of Health, National Human Genome Research Institute, Bethesda, MD. Previously she had been the Assistant Director of Cell Repositories at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research, Camden, NJ, and prior to that she was the Director of the Prenatal Testing Program at the Greenwood Genetic Center, SC. Dr. Suchy received a BS in biology and psychology from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA, and a PhD in human genetics from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond. Dr. Suchy is board certified by the American College of Medical Genetics.

Renee J. Varga, PhD

Assistant Director, Clinical Laboratory Operations

Dr. Varga received a BA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a PhD from Creighton University School of Medicine, Omaha, NE. She did her postgraduate fellowship work at the National Institutes of Health, National Human Genome Research Institute, Bethesda, MD.

Professor Emeritus, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY

Dr. Bennett is one of the world’s leading authorities on myelodysplasia and is Founder and Chairman of the MDS Foundation, as well as Editor of the journal, Leukemia Research. He is Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Medical Oncology Unit at the University of Rochester Medical Center and was a Professor of Oncology in Medicine, Pathology, and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical School. He currently serves as an Attending Hematopathologist in the Hematopathology Section of the Department of Pathology at University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Bennett earned his BA from Harvard University, Boston, MA, and his MD from Boston University, MA. He served his residency in medicine at Beth-Israel Hospital, Boston, and completed a fellowship in hematology at Boston City Hospital, MA.

Dr. Nimer is the Head, Division of Hematologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In addition, he serves as an Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital, Professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Attending Physician, Cytogenetics Service and Professor of Pharmacology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Previously, Dr. Nimer was an Associate Professor of Medicine, Cornell University Medical College; Associate Attending Physician at Memorial Hospital; Associate Member, Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; Associate Member, Sloan- Kettering Institute for Cancer Research; Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology-oncology, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, CA and Co-director, Internal Medicine Residency Training Program, UCLA School of Medicine. Ayalew Tefferi, MD

Dr. Tefferi completed his medical school education at the University of Athens, Greece. He received his hematology training at the Mayo Clinic before joining the staff at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Division of Hematology in the Department of Medicine. He is currently a Full Professor in Hematology and Internal Medicine. Dr. Tefferi is primarily engaged in direct patient care. His clinical and laboratory interests focus on myeloid disorders including polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, myelofibrosis, chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, acute leukemia, and the atypical myeloproliferative disorders. His academic and research achievements include over 800 publications. Dr. Tefferi serves as an Associate or Section Editor for the Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Leukemia, American Journal of Hematology, and European Journal of Hematology. Dr. Baker is Professor and Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine Health Sciences Center at Stony Brook University. He has more than 20 years of experience in clinical management and research studies regarding diagnosis and management of antiviral therapy for sexually transmitted infections. His publications include articles on the long-term suppression of genital herpes (Obstetrics and Gynecology), suppression of oral herpes (Cutis), and the Management of Herpes in Pregnancy (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Practice Bulletin). He is an Editor of the textbook, Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Fifth Edition, and was selected as “Best Doctor” in the New York Metro Area by the Castle Connolly Guide and New York Magazine (2006). Dr. Baker is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal fetal medicine. His other clinical and basic research interests include HIV, human papillomavirus infections, preterm labor, vaginitis, and vulvodynia.

Wendy K. Chung, MD, PhD

Dr. Chung received a BA in biochemistry and economics from Cornell University, a PhD in genetics from The Rockefeller University, and an MD from Cornell University Medical College, all in NY. She was a Resident in Pediatrics and a Fellow in Medical Genetics and Molecular Genetics at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, NY. She is board certified in clinical and molecular genetics. Her current academic appointments are: Herbert Irving Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Medicine, Director of Clinical Genetics, Director of Clinical Oncogenetics, and Fellowship Director of Cyotgenetics and Molecular Genetics, Division of Molecular Genetics, Columbia University. Dr. Chung is the recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics Young Investigator Award and the Doris Duke Career Development Award. She is a reviewer for several journals and is on the medical advisory boards of the Simons Foundation and Children’s Cardiomyopathy Foundation.

Jeffrey Gilbert, MD

Dr. Gilbert brings over 30 years of clinical experience to GenPath. He completed his medical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1975, where is now an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and OB/GYN. He has worked with several patient organizations related to sexually transmitted diseases. He currently runs a CME-accredited course on STDs at Montefiore Medical Center.

Christine J Harrison, PhD, FRCPath

Dr. Harrison is currently Professor of Childhood Cancer Cytogenetics and Director, Leukaemia Research Fund Cytogenetics Group, at Newcastle University. She has recently relocated from the University of Southampton, UK. Prior to that, Dr. Harrison was Senior Lecturer, as well as Director, and Head of the Cytogenetics Group in the Department of Haematology at the Royal Free and University College Medical School, London. She went to UCL from Christie Hospital in Manchester, UK, where she was the Director of Oncology Cytogenetics at the Paterson Institute of Cancer Research. Dr. Harrison’s research and academic accomplishments include over 140 publications. She earned her PhD in Cell Biology at the University of Manchester, UK.

Mathew S. Maurer, MD

Cardiology Scientific Advisor
New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center, New York, NY

Dr. Maurer received a BS from City College of New York: Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/City University of New York Medical School, NY, and an MD from Mount Sinai Medical School, NY. For his postdoctoral training, he was a Resident in Internal Medicine, Chief Resident in Internal Medicine, and a Cardiology Fellow at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, NY. Dr. Maurer’s academic appointments include: Associated Professor of Clinical Medicine, Section Chief, Geriatric Cardiology, Division of Cardiology, and Director, Clinical Cardiovascular Research Laboratory for the Elderly, Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is presently an Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Maurer is licensed in the state of New York and is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases.
